SESLR: Southern Euboia Sea and LandRoutes Project

Over the last decade, archaeologists and historians have adopted a new paradigm which revolves around the idea that the Mediterranean was an environment that ‘naturally’ fostered sea-borne, long-distance interconnections. The aim of our project is to give a firmer empirical basis to the Mediterranean interconnectivitymodel but also to critically examine some of its basic tenets. One of its weaknesses is that there is very little room for local and regional systems of communication or land-based interconnections. To redress this, we study networks at different scales, investigate how these operated, and analyse how they were related  to larger Mediterranean networks.
